One Little Word for 2016

One Little Word for 2016
So I saw a cool blog series called #2getherwearebetter and was inspired by their One Little Word idea. I decided to choose mine for this year and do a little blog post about it. It is Hosted by Schroeder Shenanigans and Lucky Little Learners who are basically my blogging role models, so thank you ladies! Stop by and visit them!

One Little Word for 2016
So my word for this year is GROWTH (as you saw in my first image). Now I don’t mean my size (haha) but professional and  personal growth. That term always makes me think of When Harry Met Sally. Remember this-when Marie and Sally ran into a now-divorced Harry in an NYC bookstore? She whispers to Sally, “Someone is staring at you in personal growth”. The rest is history!
One Little Word for 2016
I am a true lifelong learner! There is nothing stagnant about me and this year my goals are about growth.
First of all, professional growth:  I am always taking graduate course or professional development to improve my teaching. This month, a friend and I are taking a digital storytelling class because to be honest, I need to step up my use of technology in class.  I also have a writing in math class course to do with PBS online. I have been putting that off for a while but need to get it done.  This and continue to create and find great teaching ideas from teacher blogger will allow me to help my students grow. There is still a lot of second grade left and a lot of progress to be made!
Secondly, personal growth: I always am trying to improve myself. In December I did great getting back into working out regularly and eating better. I totally did terrible eating over vacation though but did get to the gym a lot (at least). January I will be back in the routine. Does anyone else do better with diet and exercise when they are working (because you actually need the structure, even if you’re so much busier)? Also, this fall was challenging. I had a lot of anxiety. I went to acupuncture but I can’t keep that up weekly right now because of the cost. My friend suggested an app for meditation, and I downloaded it. Now I will give it a try! Just a few minutes a day and I hope that if things become that stressful again it will help me. Finally, I want to spend time with friends and family and build family relationships more. It is easy during the school year to get so immersed with work and slack off on tending those relationships. I would like to build a stronger family and friend “unit” this year with my loved ones!
