The blog hop has ended ! Thanks everyone who stopped by!
Welcome to My blog, Reading and Writing Redhead! You have arrived at

At each blog stop, you will be gathering Reading gifts and freebies.  In each post you will find a picture of a snowman with a letter on it. Collect all of the letter to solve the mystery quote to enter the giveaway. Record all of the letters on your recording sheet and follow each blog along the way so that you can enter the amazing giveaway at the end!

The hop is set up as a loop, so you may start anywhere along the hop, but if you would like to start at the beginning you may go to A Day In The Life of A Title I Teacher‘s blog.  This is also where you will go after you finish the hop to enter the giveaway!!

Why is reading a gift? Could there be more reasons?! I have always loved to read and found it fairly easy to learn as a child; but as a teacher I know that is not only the case. That point was really driven home to me when I went to the Wilson Language Institute for their introductory training. We learned a bit about the history of Wilson and how the founder actually originally used Wilson to teach adults how to read and spell. It is horrifying to be reminded that many adults who have been through our public schools have never learned to read. We saw a really inspiring video of a man learning how to read CVC words such as “bud” in his first Wilson lesson and then just a couple months later how to read words like “splash” and “strong”. Here is a link to an inspiring story of Jill Baldarelli talking about her struggle to read and how she finally learned as an adult. Click here to watch. She shares how learning to read has changed her life and opened so many doors. Learning to read has given her self-confidence and after years of feeling “stupid”, she now is proud of herself, as she should be!

With that being said, my goal as a teacher is to get every kid reading and feeling good about their skills. Breaking down words into syllables is a great skill to help kids who are working on reading longer words. I made a winter themed freebie to help with that. Click on the image below to grab it!

My secret letter is…
