Happy Hopping!

So the end of the year is pretty hectic right? There is SO much to do and so little time. Often is it SO hot! You are tired. The kids may either be hyper or shut down (or both). Here is one end of the year strategy that I use  that may help you !

You have heard of SCOOT right? If not, you will love it! A couple years ago a friend mentioned it and I said, “What?”. Turns out I had already been doing it. Basically, it is an activity where the kids go around the room from desk to desk, usually for a very short time , moving when the teacher signals (with a bell perhaps). At each desk they have an activity to do. For example, one I use at the beginning of the year is simple adding. You put two playing cards or two dominoes on each student’s desk. The students either get a pre-made record sheet or what I have often done is have the students fold a paper into 16 squares and on each square write the answer. At the end we often correct it together and they can bring it right home.

Here is an example of what a blank preprinted SCOOT sheet might look like.

Other skills you can practice with scoot include subtraction, multiplication, division, telling time, identifying coins, counting $, the list goes on and on. You can also work in skills from language arts, such as rhyming words, antonyms, and so on.

I have attached a freebie for you called SCOOT Rhyme Time. SCOOT requires little planning, if any ( you can even have students put the materials on each desk). It can be a sanity saver and I hope it can calm the chaos at the end of the year!
