BLIZZARD Books and the Best Pencil Sharpener Giveaway

We got 27 inches here at my Mom's house! I'll be heading home around 6 so will find out how it is in New Hampshire then. Meanwhile I have been thinking about some of my favorite blizzard books for kids. Here's some of the ones I love, along with their Amazon links if you want more information.

The Big Snow by the Haders

Gorgeous illustrations and a book I didn't know about until recently.

Katy and the Big Snow by Virgina Lee Burton (book and CD)

I blogged about this recently. Love Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel, The Little House, and this one. Katy saved her town from being buried in a huge blizzard.

Blizzard by Jim Murphy

I love learning about history and this book is great if you're interested in wild weather of the past. It is for upper elementary students and older kids and details the blizzard of 1888 as it occurred in New York City, the blizzard which was also called the Children's Blizzard and devastated the Midwest.

Blizzard of the Blue Moon by mary Pope Osborne

Magic Tree House books- Mary Pope Osborne is a genius and must be very well off!

The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I have read all of these books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and this is wonderful!

Snow by Uri Shulevitz

A Calecott Honor Book

No one in this book thinks the snowflakes will amount to much but the boy and his dog are excited for something glorious to happen.

In the Snow by Huy Voun Lee

Terrific, graphic illustations!

Snowballs by Lois Ehlert

I have this fun book in my classroom and its dog eared from so many reads and rereads!

There was a Cold Lady who Swallowed Some Snow by Lucille Colandro

Hysterical! Every book in this series is super. Great for my second graders to read independently too.

Snow Day! By Lester Laminack

The possibilty of a snow day is one of the most wonderful things that can happen for a child!
